How it actually works
The four steps above are all you need to get started. Here is what runs in the background once you are connected, and why the integration is built this way.
Nightly sync at your local midnight
Each connected user's habits sync once at midnight in their own configured timezone. A user in Tokyo and a user in Berlin each get their sync at their local midnight, not at a shared global time. Your streak count is always up to date by the time you wake up, wherever you live.
What happens when a sync is missed
A separate monitoring job runs every morning at 3 a.m. It checks every connected user's sync for their local date and reruns any that failed or were skipped overnight. A missed sync in this product is a broken streak, so the repair job is not optional infrastructure; it is core to how the product works and runs silently every day.
Why streaks need an API integration
Notion formulas can reference properties on a single database page, but they cannot count consecutive days across multiple pages. The streak count in your widget is computed server-side by reading your Notion database via the official API. That is the only reason an integration is required; the goal was never to pull your data elsewhere. Read more on the about page.

Common questions
- Which Notion setups work?
- You need a Notion database where each row represents one day and has at least one checkbox property per habit you want to track. The free Notion habit tracker template is set up exactly this way and takes under two minutes to duplicate. If you already have a daily-pages database with checkbox properties, you can connect it directly during setup without duplicating the template.
- What happens if I miss checking habits one night?
- Streaks are calculated from what you checked off in Notion by midnight in your timezone. If you miss checking habits on a given day, that day counts as a miss for streak purposes. Freeze days are available on all plans and let you protect a streak when life gets in the way without breaking your chain.
- When do streaks update?
- The nightly sync runs at midnight in your configured timezone. Your streak count in the widget updates after that sync, typically within seconds of midnight. The self-healing job at 3 a.m. also retries any sync that failed overnight, so by the time you start your day your streaks reflect the previous night.
- Can I disconnect my Notion workspace?
- Yes. You can remove the Notion connection at any time from your profile page. Your habit data stays in your own Notion workspace; nothing in Notion is deleted when you disconnect. If you later reconnect the same database, your streak history picks up where it left off. Connecting a different database starts fresh.
- Does it work with an existing habit database, or only the template?
- Both. During setup you can connect any existing Notion database that has daily pages with checkbox properties. See the template page for the exact schema the integration expects, so you can compare it against your own setup. For most users, duplicating the free template is the fastest starting point. See pricing for plan details.
