Three weekly editions cover September. The month opened with the line to Notion restored after a two-week outage caused by one request header of ours. Then the backlog that had piled up behind it moved: 176 changes across the app and the site in 21 days, carried by 15 production deploys. Season 0 got its rules, its countdown and its place in the widget. Competition scoring was rebuilt around one rule. Teams and coaches got the spaces the site had promised. The last week of September merged dependency updates only, so no edition went out for it.

Reliability

The outage ends, the sync heals

Since August 17 the Notion API had rejected every request from our servers. On September 1 the fix went live: one request header, ours to get wrong. The weeks after went into the faults an outage shakes loose. Habit history now carries across a gap in syncs, so a streak broken only by our servers counts as unbroken. Accounts paused for repeated failures are probed first and restored when the connection answers again. The nightly sync no longer holds a database transaction open while it waits on Notion. A paused account gets one notice per episode. Monthly statistics are recomputed from the raw entries rather than rolled forward. A regression that stopped past competitions from loading was caught within a week and fixed.

Season 0 took shape

Season 0: Founding Heroes, running October 1 to 31, went from a date to a thing you can see. A public rules page with the dates, the join steps and a short FAQ; the top scorer names Season 1. A countdown on the home page with the number of heroes who have joined. A hall of fame block that fills when the season closes. A badge for every finisher, with a home on your profile. One join link that already knows which competition you mean. An account can hold a regular competition and the featured season at the same time. The widget shows the season to anyone not in a competition yet. The post Season 0 opens October 1 went up on the blog. The landing page got a new hero video.

Scoring settled on its rules

Three editions, three scoring changes, each toward one consistent rule. Scheduled habits re-settle yesterday's edits: a missed due day ticked late counts, an un-ticked day hands its freeze credit back. Podium ties break the same way every time: total points, then average completion, then perfect days, then who joined first. Competition scores are no longer running totals. They are recomputed from your journal rows on every sync, over one window with one rule: you score from the day before you joined. Live averages divide by the days you were actually scored, so a late joiner is no longer dragged down by days before they were in.

Connecting Notion, fewer dead ends

A journal database that fails the schema check repairs itself with one click, listing the exact changes first. A workspace already connected to another account is named by its masked email, with an offer to sign in there. Duplicating the template now tells us which page Notion created, so the connect goes straight to the right database; the name search stays as the fallback. Each search attempt costs one call instead of two. A returning user's reconnect prefers the database they had before over a newer template copy. Notion Habit Heroes is listed in Notion's integration gallery since the first week of September.

Teams and coaches got their spaces

The team and coach pages had promised a shared space. September delivered it. A groups hub lists your memberships. A group page shows the members, the invite link and the owner tools. Teams get a team challenge the owner creates and members join with one click. Coaches get a client roster: last entry, quiet days, top streak, completion over 7 and 30 days, sync health per client. Clients never see each other. A group owner can define a habit template that lands in every member's journal, additive only, and push updates with one click.

Your habits, your order, your phone

Edit Habits lets you order your habits by dragging. The widget and your Notion journal views follow. The widget's mobile glance can be added to a phone's home screen, where it opens full-screen like an app. The login page became a single form that password managers understand. The ten-minute forced logout is gone. The start page shows whether the widget has been placed and links today's entry. A new page explains to template creators how to bundle the journal schema inside their own templates. Work on tracking without a Notion database began on the server side, behind a switch that stays off.

Under the hood

Under the hood

The site deploys from its build pipeline and pings search engines on every production deploy. The nightly end-to-end suite got its last red cases fixed and can be triggered from a merge request on demand. The scheduled jobs that watch logs, reviews and feedback are tracked in the repository and alert when a run fails. The weekly log review tracks warning trends per fingerprint. Both repositories took their routine dependency updates. Quiet hardening shipped in several waves; as usual the specifics stay unnamed.

Distilled from the three weekly ship-log editions covering August 31 to September 20, 2026. The weeks in full: September 6 · September 14 · September 20. The week of September 21 to 27 merged dependency updates only and had no edition.
