I'm Lucas, a solo developer based in Germany. I started building Notion Habit Heroes in February 2023 as a personal script to add streaks and points to my own Notion habit database. Three and a half years and 475 commits later, it is a product others use too.

What Notion Habit Heroes does

Notion Habit Heroes is a social habit tracker inside Notion. You keep your habits in your own Notion database, the app adds the layer that Notion formulas cannot compute on their own: automatic streak counters, gamified points, group competitions with a leaderboard, and 1-on-1 duels. Everything updates nightly; your Notion workspace stays the source of truth.

The app is free with no time limit. The free plan covers unlimited habits, streak tracking, the Notion integration and widget, shareable streak cards, and freeze days. A Pro plan adds group competitions, duels, and Insights with all-time records.

How the technical side works

A few things run in the background that are worth knowing about, especially if streak accuracy matters to you.

  • Nightly sync at your local midnight. Each user's habits sync once per night, at midnight in their own configured timezone. A user in Tokyo and a user in Berlin each get their sync at their local midnight, not a shared global time.
  • Self-healing job at 3 a.m. A separate job runs every morning and checks every connected user's sync for their local date. If a sync was missed or failed overnight, the job re-runs it automatically before the next day begins. A missed sync in this product is a broken streak, so the repair pass is not optional infrastructure; it is core to how the product works.
  • Why an API integration, not a Notion formula. Notion formulas cannot count streaks across multiple database pages. The streak you see in the widget is computed server-side by reading your Notion database via the official API. That is the only reason an integration is necessary; the goal was never to pull your data elsewhere.

Your data and privacy

When you connect Notion, you grant OAuth access to a single database you choose. Notion Habit Heroes reads checkbox completions from that one database and cannot access anything else in your workspace. Your habit data stays in your own Notion workspace; nothing is copied to our servers beyond what is needed to compute streaks and points.

You can disconnect your Notion workspace at any time from your profile page. The service is operated from Germany and falls under EU and GDPR rules. For the legal details, see the imprint.
